George Mutinda Continues to Shine on the International Stage

University of Embu Student and Kenyan 400m sprinter George Mutinda continues to make remarkable strides in athletics after recently representing Kenya at the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.

Competing in the mixed 4x400m relay alongside Mercy Oketch, Kevin Tonui, and Mercy Chebet, the Kenyan quartet delivered an outstanding performance, clocking an African record time of 3:09.87 and securing qualification for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China.

Mutinda played a key role in the team’s success, running the opening leg and helping Kenya finish second in their heat behind Great Britain. The achievement marked one of Kenya’s strongest relay performances on the global stage in recent years.

The talented sprinter has also enjoyed individual success, having won the Kenyan National 400m title in 2025 with a personal best time of 44.51 seconds, which met the World Championship qualifying standard. He later represented Kenya at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
