Objectives

Sports and games are essential for the development of student-athletes and play an important role in protecting the image of the university at the local, national and international levels.

The department runs and implements a sports and recreation program that instills values and virtues of honesty, loyalty, integrity, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, respect, leadership, trust and commitment in our student-athletes.
It also exposes them to challenges of competition, the joy of victory, the reality of defeat and the importance of commitment and the spirit of community.

Therefore, for the department to achieve the above values and virtues to all its stakeholders, it undertakes to implement the following 10 objectives:

  1. To advise the university management on matters pertaining to Sports, games, and recreation.
  2. To popularize, develop and promote sports and games and healthy practices amongst the university students and staff.
  3. To provide and host sporting activities and opportunities that meet the needs of all internal and external interested parties’ interests.
  4. To develop and Implement policies for promoting sports and games at the university.
  5. To enhance the provision of sports and recreation infrastructure and equipment and ensuring their proper utilization.
  6. To recruit, develop and retain highly qualified, motivated and committed sports and recreational technical staff.
  7. To embrace technology in sports training and coaching.
  8. To establish effective collaborations and partnerships with national, regional and international sports federations, organizations and associations.
  9. To address emerging sports and recreational related issues, unethical conduct and other malpractices in university sports.
  10. To identify and nurture sports related talents amongst the students.
