Kenya Association for the Welfare of People with Epilepsy (KAWE) Meeting Photos

A team of eight officers from the Kenya Association for the Welfare of People with Epilepsy (KAWE) visited the University of Embu on Monday, 21st July 2025, for the official launch of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions in October 2024. The ceremony was held at 10:00 a.m. in the Senate Boardroom.

The delegation was led by KAWE CEO, Mr. Patrick Ngechu, and the Chairman, Dr. Osman Miyanji, a Paediatric Neurologist. They were accompanied by two members of the Board of Directors, Mr. Maurice O. K'anjejo and Mr. Ireri K. Rweria.

The team was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Mugendi, alongside other members of University Management. During the visit, the guests were taken through a brief overview of the University’s history and the key milestones achieved since its establishment.

Founded in 1982, KAWE has provided care and support to over 25,000 people living with epilepsy and has established more than 30 satellite clinics across the country. The partnership aims to support Community Health Promoters (CHPs) by integrating epilepsy-related training into medical curriculum programs, equipping graduates with the skills necessary to assist individuals living with epilepsy.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward making epilepsy a health priority in Kenya, focusing on capacity building, creating impact, and improving lives.
