The University of Embu on Wednesday, 15th July 2026, hosted a delegation from Compassion International Kenya on a courtesy visit aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration in youth empowerment and skills development. The delegation comprised the Lead Youth Specialist, Ms. Lydia Sereya, and Mr. Anthony Wangeci, an alumnus of the University of Embu, Class of 2021.

The visitors were received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Planning, Administration and Finance, Prof. Eucharia Kenya, who welcomed them on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Mugendi. During the meeting, the delegation was taken through the University's remarkable milestones since its establishment, with particular emphasis on the creation of the University of Embu TVET Institute and its significant contribution towards equipping young people with market-driven skills, enhancing employability, and improving livelihoods within the community.

The discussions also highlighted the work of Compassion International Kenya, which has been serving vulnerable children and youth since its establishment in Kenya in 1980. Through partnerships with more than 490 local churches across the country, the organisation has positively impacted the lives of over 138,000 vulnerable children by providing holistic support that nurtures their spiritual, educational, social, and economic well-being.

The two institutions held fruitful deliberations on the importance of bridging existing innovation and skills gaps among young people to prepare them for the rapidly evolving socio-economic landscape. They acknowledged the need to strengthen partnerships that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical skills development as key drivers of sustainable youth empowerment.

Compassion International Kenya implements its youth programmes through four key thematic pillars: fostering meaningful relationships and character development, empowering young people to exercise agency and become responsible members of society, promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being, and enhancing self-reliance through the acquisition of relevant skills and competencies. These thematic areas closely align with the University of Embu's commitment to producing competent, innovative, and socially responsible graduates capable of transforming society.
