ICT Department Updates

The University of Embu has implemented an E-voting system to allow students to carry out elections virtually. The system is also available for lease to other Universities to carry out similar student elections. We recently carried out our 3rd online student election and it was successful with this year having the highest voter turnout with about 33% of the student population voting.

Compared to the previous years in 2020 during our first online elections, we had 961 voters, 2021 had 2,362 voters and this year 2022 we had 3,143 voters having the highest number of voters yet. This shows the student body is embracing the new way of conducting elections.

The ICT Department has also improved some of its platforms including the Meeting Dashboard by including the Google Calendar Sync feature and the latest security features, the ODeL reporting tool for statistics and Learning Management System (LMS) improved access and security features of the system. We have also recently released an ICT Assets Management System to keep track of all the assets within the university to aid the department know the security posture of the university network and its devices.

Further, the ICT Department is in the process of setting up a new computer lab dabbed Computer Lab 4 to be used primarily for the Computer Science student. In preparation for the September intake, we have so far set up the desks and chairs and now awaiting the installation of the network and the computers for the lab to be ready for use.
