The Impact of ICT on Education

The notable increase in the social use of ICT and its impact is a facet that cannot go unnoted in the education sector. ICT is already becoming a fundamental tool for new lecturers and students in the lecture rooms. We would like to analyze the impact of the use of ICT in education and we will begin by understanding the term ICT.

Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) is a set of techniques and devices based on new technological tools and the different supports and channels of information and communication and involves the process of obtaining, processing, storing, and transmitting information digitally.

The use of ICT is so widespread in society that lecture halls should not be less, and they must ensure that they take advantage of what they can bring us. The educational sector must assume the responsibility of gradually implementing all the technologies that may favour student learning in some way and ensure that they learn to use them in a world where they are already part of professional life and their social environment.

In the case of e-learning platforms such as the UoEm Learning Management System (LMS), course outline, course notes, online assessments and assignments, student learning progress and student interaction with the lecturer are made much easier and more efficient. Close communication between students and lecturers is encouraged through various channels including LMS, more spontaneously and less formally. The use of ICT in the lectures promotes the student’s active and participatory attitude, which is involved in learning and is positioned as the protagonist.

We also have learning materials on the University’s library website with a repository of a wide range of information, books, articles, journals, publications, and even past papers for revision purposes. The student email accounts allow the student to collaborate between themselves making it easier for them to create group projects, cooperate and learn from each other using Google tools such as Google Docs, and Google Sheets among others.

ICT in the lecture rooms increases the motivation of the students, show more interest and becomes more involved in the areas they study. ICT enables the use of innovative educational resources and the renewal of learning methods, establishing a more active collaboration of students and the simultaneous acquisition of technological knowledge. Furthermore, ICTs are of great help in developing discernment. Being able to search for various sources and contrast them, as well as structure information are some of the most notable skills that students develop thanks to the use of ICT. The learner’s interest in learning grows when the use of resources as varied as videos, websites, graphics, and games make traditional subjects more interesting. Multimedia content is a very useful tool to bring different subjects closer to students completely and entertainingly.
