New Computer Lab
In today’s world, technology is rapidly pervading many fields of human endeavour. It is challenging to integrate technology into the learning process while still ensuring that classes are productive and well-managed. Nowadays, most educational institutions utilize computer labs to give students a global perspective of problems and possible solutions.
The university had been using two computer labs with a capacity of 155 computers but there was a compelling need to narrow the ratio of students to computers especially with the growth of the University. We are pleased to announce the establishment of our third computer lab with 126 new fully functioning computers. The lab is divided into three sections: undergraduate, masters, and doctorate |
The lab was set up within the month of August 2020 with Mr. Waigwa leading the team. All computers are connected to the internet, windows 10 operating system have been installed and the following Applications: Adobe reader, Kaspersky, MS office suite 2016, codebooks, dev C++, chrome and Mozilla browsers, Java (JDK & NetBeans), QGIS and Rapid Typing tutor. The ICT Team also put in place security measures to safeguard our computers as a precaution against cyber attacks. Additionally, the computers have been promoted to the domain and given unique identification for centralised management of lab resources. We have installed an application with interactive capabilities that lecturers can use to demonstrate or give instructions to students from a specific computer and presented to each student's computer in the lab.
In response to the pandemic, the ICT Team developed an online booking platform where students are encouraged to book slots to use the computers in our labs for educational growth.
