Advancing IT Support Systems

Advancing IT Support Systems

ICT Department is key on embracing technology and innovation and aims at taking the University to greater heights. Apart from providing technical support, the department develops systems and process to improve technology, ease workload, empower staff, streamline procedures, and promote innovation

During the harsh conditions of Covid-19 pandemic that took the world to stand still, technology was the one thing that kept organizations afloat and ensured that operations continued. Once a new technology rolls over you, if you're not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.” Stewart Brand, bearing that in mind the team immediately took up the trend by implementing some of the systems and process that were in the pipelines for future considerations.

As the Universities closed, Online meetings were the first process to be implemented despite the need to attain social distance, ICT ensured that ideas and opinions can be constantly shared on online boardrooms while observing distance. Online communication ensured that operations still ran seamlessly, and staff could work from home. The online meetings have proven to be successful and hopefully, this did set a trend for the future.

The implementation of E-learning in the University is one of the major achievements the department has next to the implementation of ERP. The University was able to admit new students electronically, register the students in the system and commence teaching via the E-learning system. The system was embraced with a positive outlook and it allowed students to get back on their academic track. The process may not have been without its challenges but there is nothing new under the sun, as the team is constantly working on improving the system.

Security is key especially in the University that is why the ICT department in consultation with the University Management set–up a state of the art surveillance equipment to boost security in the University. You can never have too much security. There is coverage of the better part of the university and we look forward to increasing surveillance throughout the University.

The electronic Voting system was a project that excited the team. Developing an electronic voting system from scratch was a challenge the team took up with a lot of enthusiasm. After months of hard work, the team delivered a fully functioning system that allowed students to vote at the comfort of their homes. The system was put to work and the system worked perfectly. Through this project, the department assisted in making history for the University as being the first to conduct online elections during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Simplifying workloads is one of the key purposes of Technology, that is why the ICT team is keen on the automation of many procedures within the University. The department wants to ensure that clients get outstanding services at minimum time possible. Staff to work efficiently and effectively. By automating procedures there has been improved accessibility of services.

The Department is looking forward to further improving technology in the University, developing innovations, automating more services, improving customer satisfaction and save on resources. As technology changes the way we communicate, connect and innovate, it is democratizing access to opportunity. Education is no exception – Laura Andreessen.
