The Directorate of Academic Quality Assurance (DAQA) has put in place internal quality assurance mechanisms to ensure that teaching, learning, research and extension services meet and exceed its customer expectations. To ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of quality teaching and learning, DAQA conducts the following processes:
- Monitoring of student admission, registration and orientation process: To gather new students’ experiences during their admission, registration and orientation into the University while adequately preparing students for academic life.
- Monitoring of lecture take-off: Conducted during the first two weeks of the semester to confirm that lectures commence as scheduled.
- Students’ teaching and learning evaluation: Gathers student feedback towards the end of the semester to assess the effectiveness of teaching methods, curriculum delivery and learning support, with the aim of improving academic quality.
- Student practical teaching and learning evaluation: Conducted towards the end of the semester to assess the quality and relevance of practical sessions in enhancing students’ hands-on skills, competence and application of theoretical knowledge.
- Lecturers’ teaching experience evaluation: Gathers feedback from the lecturers towards the end of the semester to assess the effectiveness of the course outline, teaching environment and the overall teaching experience in terms of resources and support from the University with the aim of improving academic quality.
- Monitoring of examination administration and invigilation: Ensures examinations are conducted in a secure, fair and orderly manner in accordance with institutional Examination Invigilation Guidelines.
- Teaching practice experience evaluation: Gathers feedback from the teacher trainees placed for teaching practice with an aim of improving the quality of instruction while preparing them for their professional teaching roles.
- Clinical practice learning evaluation: Gathers feedback from students to assess the quality of clinical placements in developing students’ practical competencies, professional conduct and adherence to clinical standards.
- Graduate Tracer Studies surveys: Collects data on graduates’ employment status, career progression and relevance of acquired skills to the labor market to inform curriculum review and institutional planning.
- Self-Assessment of academic programs: It is a systematic internal evaluation of academic programmes against set standards to identify strengths, gaps and areas for continuous improvement that inform curriculum reviews and institutional planning.
- Trainings/Workshops: To retool/sensitize academic members of staff of emerging issues in the education sector to improve content delivery during teaching.
The mechanisms put in place are guided by regulatory requirements, identified needs, internal procedures and guidelines, international best practices and stakeholder requirements. DAQA then analyzes results and develops quality assurance reports to the relevant University organs for consideration and informed decision making
