Our Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme is centered on:
"Enhancing human capacity in civil engineering through multidisciplinary training, research and community outreach."
The Department seeks to nurture engineers who are technically competent, socially responsible, innovative, and capable of contributing meaningfully to sustainable development.
What is Civil Engineering?
Civil Engineering is one of the oldest, broadest and most impactful branches of engineering. It focuses on planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure that supports society and economic growth.
Civil engineers are responsible for developing roads, bridges, buildings, dams, water supply systems, transportation networks, environmental systems, and other essential public works. Civil engineers play a critical role in improving the quality of life by creating safe, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure for communities.
Civil engineers develop and manage facilities such as:
- Highways and roads
- Buildings and bridges
- Water supply systems
- Dams and irrigation systems
- Transportation systems and airports
- Tunnels and waterways
- Sanitary and wastewater treatment systems
- Traffic control systems
- Public infrastructure and environmental systems
Civil engineers play a critical role in improving quality of life by developing safe, sustainable, resilient, and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
Why Study Civil Engineering at Our University?
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering programme was developed through extensive stakeholder engagement involving engineering professionals, Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK), consultants, university lecturers, industry practitioners, educators, and wider community.
The curriculum is aligned with emerging global trends and incorporates multidisciplinary approaches, innovation, entrepreneurship, professionalism, and practical industrial training.
The programme integrates modern engineering areas such as:
